The Piney Point Golf Team

First Tee – Greater Houston is a nonprofit that teaches golf to young people in the Houston area while also building essential life skills and character traits like responsibility, integrity, and confidence. The organization achieves this through golf instruction integrated with a curriculum that emphasizes values, leadership, and healthy habits, delivered in-person at golf facilities, within schools, and through community partnerships. The goal is to impact young people's lives by instilling values, promoting healthy choices, and developing essential character strengths through the game of golf.

What First Tee – Greater Houston Does

  • Teaches Life Skills Through Golf:

The core mission is to help kids build character and life skills, such as confidence, resilience, honesty, and perseverance, by using the game of golf as a teaching tool.

  • Promotes Health and Wellness:

The programs incorporate lessons on "Nine Healthy Habits" to address the physical, emotional, and social well-being of the participants.

  • Offers Multiple Program Channels:
    • Life Skills Experience: In-person programs at green grass golf facilities that combine character education with golf skill development.
    • School Program: The organization partners with P.E. teachers in Houston area schools to deliver a trademarked curriculum as a physical education unit.
    • Community Program: Partnerships with other youth organizations, such as the Boys & Girls Clubs and the YMCA, to bring golf and life skills education to a wider audience.
  • Provides a Safe and Supportive Environment:

First Tee offers a positive environment where trained coaches guide children through both golf lessons and the challenges they face in life.

  • Builds Character:

At the heart of the program are the "Nine Core Values," including sportsmanship, respect, and responsibility, which are taught and reinforced at every level.

The Greater Houston Chapter

  • Impact:

First Tee – Greater Houston is a large chapter that reached hundreds of thousands of youth annually in the past, leading the nation in the number of young people served.

  • Facilities:

They have their own junior golf facility at F.M. Law Park, a nine-hole course designed for kids, serving as a hub for their programs in an underserved part of the community.
