SAF - Student Assistance Form
In Houston ISD (HISD), the Student Assistance Form (SAF) is a digital form used by parents, students, teachers, or community members to request non-academic assistance and support for students facing various challenges. It's a confidential tool that connects students and families to the district's community partners to address needs like food, clothing, mental health support, housing, transportation, and school supplies, thereby ensuring students can focus on their education.
What the SAF does:
- Identifies needs: It serves as the primary tool to report student or family issues to the school community.
- Connects to resources: The form prompts school staff to connect students and families to internal and external resources and services.
- Covers a range of issues: SAFs can be submitted for a wide array of non-academic needs, including:
- Mental and emotional health concerns
- Food and clothing insecurity
- Housing instability
- Transportation challenges
- Need for school supplies or uniforms
- Concerns about harassment or equity
How it works:
- Submission: A parent, student, teacher, or community member fills out the SAF, usually via a link or QR code provided by the school.
- Review: The form appears on a platform dashboard for the school's designated support staff.
- Follow-up: The counselor or a similar staff member follows up with the student and family to identify specific needs and coordinate support.
- Support Coordination: The staff member works to connect the student with the most appropriate resources and partners within HISD's Continuum of Care approach.
